Top headline:  Learn a painting trick!  Hide flaws on any wall and create the look of expensive wood molding without the expense!

This month's tip!
Look at this photo on the right....there is something very tricky going on here.

This is a home that had holes and damage to the drywall that was
visually bringing the whole room down.

The owners tried spackle, sanding, spraying popcorn texture, and a variety of paint colors that they hoped would hide the problem.

Here is the solution!  Apply a wallpaper to a section,  not the whole wall.  In this photo the height is 4' and we installed a white wood trim that had a shelf across the top.  You can also use a chair rail trim at the top,  where the wallpaper ends.

I recommed that the cove base along the floor be painted to match the chair rail trim in a deeper color for a little more interest.

How clever is this!

More thoughts on this....
This is a clever trick that will add drama to any room and create
an elegant look that will hide flaws in any wall.

Applying a wallpaper to any wall will add texture and level/flatten the surface

For this elegant yet old-fashioned look, just apply any embossed wallpaper two-thirds of the way up your wall.

You can find decorative, inexpensive wallpaper in any home improvement store.

To create a defining transition between the plain wall at the top  use a narrow shelf  to soften the change from textured to plain.

You can also use a molding strip to get the same effect.

To enhance the texture, we used a paint technique that darkens the field area of the pattern and lightens the raised portion.

To achieve this result, first cover or tape off the base molding and floor; paint the wallpaper in a solid color, then use a squeegee to remove some of the paint from the raised spots.

To make the pattern stand out just highlight the raised decorative area with a deeper shade of the wall paint.
