MAKING SOMETHING NEW AGAIN!

Have you ever had a piece of furniture that you'd love to paint but are concerned that painting it might take away from the value of the antique.
I decided that it's more important to like the furniture you have by doing what you want to make it something you'll enjoy and risk the fact that it may loose it's value as an antique.

I inherited this piece furniture from my grandmother.  I love the piece but I always had the urge to paint it.

I finally decided to go ahead and paint it.  Then I found the mirror in storage and now it's one of my favorite pieces in my home.

I enjoyed the solid white for a long time but last spring I decided to reinvent the whole look with my favorite colors, periwinkle blue, lavender, moss green and deep violet.

Here's how I did it.  A dry, sunny day is the best weather to paint furniture.
Put down a drop cloth,  gather your favorite paints and sit on your porch and get ready to paint.
Make sure you have pencils, rulers, erasers  and lots of different brushes.
Remove the hardware, sand lightly and put a coat of white or tinted primer on the entire piece.

The primer dries quickly so you can sketch in your design with a pencil and measure to make sure everything is centered.

I decided to put my grandmothers initials in the center on the top of a little
design I made up.

Dots and stripes lined with different shades of moss bring out the detail.

 "E-W-R" were her initials and then I put a "D" below for"Dugan".
I added a spray of violet and white on each side to soften the center design.

The mirror attached to a frame that sits on top of the base.

I lined the decorative crownwork with a pale green and
deeper moss which looked great on the pale blue base color.

The bed pillows were my inspiration for the color choices.
I enjoy all white linens, there is a calm feeling that shade
brings to the room and I can just change the throw pillows to get a whole
new look quickly.

I also painted the brass hardware to match and added them to the base cabinet and top drawer.

Funky I know but  it all just makes me happy.
